Space is very much a scientific and technological concept, but its main draw comes from how vast it is. Space could possibly be infinite for all we know. So combined with art and design, space can really be used to amplify the weight of art.  Many artists choose to explore the intersection between space and art in a more literal sense, utilizing the vastness of space and spaceships as a medium for their works. He quite literally creates art in space, utilizing the zero gravity to form an ambiguous piece of art that can take on many meanings. Au Vo  DESMA 9  Dr. Vesna 26 May 2024 Week 8 Blog I was first introduced to and learned about nanotechnology in the movie theaters when I was watching the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War . Tony Stark, or Iron Man, had developed a new suit that was completely formed by nanotechnology. This was amazing to see especially in a movie as it is an art form. With that prior knowledge of nanotechnology, I was amazed to learn in this class that nanotechnology can be used in so many different artistic forms.  Iron Man Nano Suit Nanotechnology could be used beyond the context of a superhero and science fiction movie. In fact, it can be used in art—an entirely different field of study and work. I learned that nanoart was much more than just a representation of the advances in technology.    Au Vo  DESMA 9  Dr. Vesna 19 May 2024 Week 7 Blog: Neuroscience This week’s topic is extremely relevant and fascinating to me as I do research in a biomedical laboratory where I focus on cancer immunotherapy. In addition to my biomedical research, I have to take classes about neuroscience and physiology. Seeing that the topic this week was revolved around this topic made me very excited. At first, it might be a little hard to see the applications of neuroscience in art—I know it took me a while to see the connection. After all, art and biotechnology are on opposing sides. Art typically stimulates the right side of our brain, while biotechnology and other sciences stimulates the left side of the brain.  Even at UCLA, we can see this separation between art and science with North Campus housing the humanities and South Campus hosting the sciences.   Au Vo  DESMA 9  Dr. Vesna 19 May 2024 Event Blog 2 I attended the LASER Talks event themed “Three Cultures: The Potential for Change When Art, Science, and Policy Meet.” It was an interesting and inspiring experience for me as a Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics student. I have not really been exposed to design and arts prior to this class. However, over the past seven weeks, I have come to appreciate the intersection between art and science. This event was moderated by Ingeborg Reichle and she jumped right into the dynamic nexus of these disciplines and their collective potential to drive transformative policy changes, especially in environmental conservation.  This event most definitely aligned with my studies in DESMA 9, where we have been exploring the relationship between scientific processes and artistic expression.
